8 cold storages to be established in six provinces
Afghan Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Ministry has undertaken construction of eight large cold storage facilities across six provinces in an attempt to preserve huge quantity of fresh fruits from being wasted.
Deputy Agriculture Minister Mir Amanudding Haideri told Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN) the facilities were being established at a cost of USD 28mn in Kabul, Kandahar, Nangarhar, Balkh, Kunduz and Herat provinces.
Each facility would have the capacity of storing 5000 metric tons of fruits.
The construction of storages is expected to complete over the next 23 months.
Farmers had been issued loans amounting USD 3 million from the Ministry’s funds to help them develop their fruit orchards and farming, adds the source.
