Afghan domestic products not at par with international standards

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries and the Norms and Standards Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to address the issue of lack of quality in Afghan domestic products.

This comes as a number of Afghan products were returned from foreign countries due to lack of quality.

Head of the ACCI, Atiqullah Nasrat, called on the private sector to invest in laboratories inside Afghanistan in order to improve the quality of domestic products.

As per the MoU, ACCI is responsible to train producers about the pros of standards and their effects on the development of trade.

Norms and Standard Department director Popalzai Popal said the MoU was aimed at evaluating, capacity building in production sector, improvement of exports and access to world markets.

Meanwhile, ACCI deputy head Khan Jan Alokozay expressed concerns over illegal imports of medicines into Afghanistan from Pakistan and Iran and called on the government to address the issue.
