nehal shani[1]Hundreds of women accompanied the Kabul Municipality in the tree plantation campaign held in Kabul.

The campaign was launched by the Women Committee of the Afghan Democratic Association.

Head of the Committee Mahnaz Malestani said 3000 seedlings were planted from Pul-e-Sokhta region to Dasht Barchi region of Kabul city.

The seedlings were provided by the Ministry of Education and the Kabul Municipality.

According to Ms. Malestani, the Committee wanted to show through this campaign that women were also interested in performing community services.

The Kabul Municipality has planned to plant a million saplings all across Kabul city during this spring season.

Eng. Nasreen Sabri, Director of Kabul Municipality’s Greenery Department, called on citizens to assist the Municipality in protecting the plants.

She encouraged Kabul residents to plant trees in their houses.

Saplings are planted to bring back the once-leafy streets of Kabul. However, tending them to maturity is a much harder task due to vandalism and lack of maintenance and due to weather extremes and pollution.
