Afghanistan as Observer to SCO Summit

Recently, Shanghai Cooperation Organization member countries have agreed attending of Afghanistan as observers in to this organization.

Hu Jintao the president of Public Republic of China said during the organization’s annual meeting in Beijing “that after this Afghanistan, will attend as observer to SCO summit “.

President Karzai also had attended Shanghai Cooperation Organization annual meeting in Beijing.

SCO was formed in 2001 to promote regional cooperation. Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, are members countries of this organization. Meanwhile yesterday, China has agreed to start several economical projects in Afghanistan in coordination with the Afghan government.

According to the presidential media office, a delegation including representatives of National Petroleum Company of China will visit Kabul in June.

 It is expected that the membership of Afghanistan as SCO observers will extend Kabul’s relations with the organization’s member states, so far, India, Pakistan, Iran and Mongolia have participated as observers at meetings of SCO members. In 2009 Afghanistan was participated as member guest in SCO summit. Afghanistan’s membership in the SCO as an observer is considered to be a good opportunity for expanding regional cooperation.
