Afghanistan signs MoU with Turkish company on extension of Kajaki hydropower dam

Afghan Ministry of Energy and Water signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Turkish company for the extension of Kajaki hydropower dam in southern Helmand province.

Minister Ahmad Osmani said 150MW of electricity would be produced in total with the completion of the extension of the dam.

He further added that the reservoir capacity of the dam would also be expanded by billion cubic meter.

This comes after the inauguration of the historic Salma Dam on Saturday in western Herat Province by President Ghani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

President Ghani had said earlier in March that work on key infrastructure projects including construction of water dams will start in accordance with the available resources.
