afghanistan social media[1]Paiwand Social Media Summit, Afghanistan’s First Social Media Summit, is scheduled to be held on September 22nd and 23rd.

Organized by Impassion, the Summit will bring together over 200 participants and speakers from 24 provinces of Afghanistan and around the world to Kabul for a two-day summit that aims to connect and grow the Afghan social media community.

Paiwand is supported by a diverse group of event partners in both the public and private sector, reflecting the growing importance of social media in all sectors of Afghanistan. These partners include 1TV, East Horizon Airlines, the United Nations Development Program, the U.S. Embassy, and the British Embassy.

This year’s summit theme is “Social Media for Social Good”, with a particular focus on how citizens can use social media for civic engagement. Sessions at the Summit include “Social Media and Government Transparency”, “Digital Empowerment for Development”, “Redefining Media in the Age of Digital”, and a panel discussion among several politicians on “Social Media and the 2014 Elections” that will be aired on Amaj, 1TV’s Prime Time Current Affairs Program.

“While we are delighted to be joined by some really prominent speakers, equally important is the opportunity for the participants to network and collaborate through a number of small group sessions,” says Eileen Guo, one of the summit organizers.
