Agriculture projects shut down due to budget deficit problems

ministry of agricultureSeveral major development projects in the agriculture sector have been shut down due to the current revenue deficit at the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi said major saffron development projects, irrigation and forest protection projects have been stalled due to lack of budget.

In the meantime, MoF officials have linked the deficit problem to the troubled election process that has discouraged investment and slowed down aid flow to Afghanistan.

Economic pundits believe that mechanization of agricultural production in Afghanistan would be able to revive the economic growth; however, they criticized the government for not giving it more attention.
