Economic Development Requires Better Security: MoFA

The Afghan Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassoul said economic development requires improvement in security situation in Afghanistan.

Addressing a press conference after a regional economic conference in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, on Tuesday, Rassoul said economic projects discussed in the conference were vital not only for Afghanistan but also for the region.

The conference resulted in a trade agreement between Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the countries.

“As Afghan government is taking all security responsibilities, it directly affects on the country’s economy,” said Minister Rassoul. “This is why holding such conferences will play a vital role after a complete withdrawal of foreign troops from Afghanistan.”

“Brining an immediate peace to Afghanistan was decided by all nations in the conference,” Tajik Foreign Minister, Hamrah Khan Zarif said in a joint press conference with Rassoul.

Despite some criticism over the implementation of the decision of similar previous economic conferences, Rassoul hoped that this conference could enforce its decisions.
