The European Chamber of Commerce was inaugurated in Afghanistan at Kabul Serena. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Omar Zakhilwal, Minister of Finance, H.E. Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi and EU Special Representative, Vygaudas Usackas.
The Chamber would work with the Afghan entities and officials, like the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the Afghan Investment Support Agency, the Afghan Business Council, to strengthen the private sector in Afghanistan and broaden the business network in Afghanistan by developing trade and industrial relations between Afghanistan and the 27 EU states.
EUCCA is believed to serve as a means to help Afghanistan move away from reliance on foreign aids but rather move towards real fundamentals such as investments and commerce. Investments and commerce are two essential tools that can assure sustainability to a country’s economy.
Ambassador Ušackas said: “I am confident EUCCA will play a full part in promoting increased EU trade with Afghanistan, job creation and Afghan prosperity more widely.”
The relationship with EUCCA will call on Afghanistan to raise the quality of its products by bringing international standards into conformance. As a result of which markets will expand and international competitiveness will increase.
Private sector is essential to alleviate poverty by expanding economic opportunities. To establish a strong private sector, a strong institution is needed to create incentives for the private sector to generate entrepreneurship. EUCCA is seen to be this institute.
