Nutrition and Education International (NEI) is partnering with an Afghanistan business partner to create a commercial sterilized soymilk for Afghanistan’s private sector in the coming months.
The factory will be able to produce soy milk on a large scale for the Afghan market. The soy milk factory will produce 40,000 single serving size pouches daily, equaling 2,050,000 liters per year.
The soy milk pouches will have a 10 month shelf-life without refrigeration. It is the largest soy milk factory established by NEI and thanks to the donation of the Republic of Korea government.
The construction of the soy milk equipment is by Daesung Food Tech Corporation in Korea. When ready, it will be shipped within the month to Kabul for NEI and their partner to produce soy milk for Afghanistan.
NEI’s factory in Kapisa already processes 600 MT of soybeans annually and produces 60 MT of crude soy oil.
Last year proved to be a record breaking year for the production of soybean in Afghanistan. Nutrition and Education International (NEI), in partnership with Afghan farmers produced 4,000 MT of soybean.
This is a one hundred percent increase of soybean production of 2,000 MT of last year. That figure is increasing dramatically to over 4,000 MT in 2015-2016 due to the hard work of over 12,000 farmers throughout the country.
NEI has a plan to support Afghan farmers by providing high quality seeds, fertilizers, post-harvest equipment, and buying back the grown soybeans for processing. NEI plans to train 18,000 farmers with input distribution and produce around 6,000 MT of soybean in Afghanistan in 2016.
