Government owes USD 77mn in power bills to DABS

breshna sherkatGovernment authorities have defaulted on paying Da Afghanistan Breshan Sherkat (DABS) USD 77mn (4bn AFN) in electricity bills.

DABS Marketing Chief Mirwais Alami urged the authorities at a news conference to remit their bills to help generate revenues for the national utility company.

The government has previously owed money to DABS as well. But, according to Mr. Alami, the bill recovery effort in 2012 had been better than in past years.

The official believed the public-sector units — the largest consumers — had been using more electricity than their annual budgetary allocations for the purpose.
