Government yet to complete development projects in Nangarhar

behsood bridgeResidents and Provincial Council and Development Council officials from Nangarhar province criticized the government for failing to living up to its commitments.

The Afghan government had promised to complete the construction of Behsood bridge and second lane of Kabul-Jalalabad-Torkham highways; however, the projects have been stalled due to budget problems.

“The government does not pay much attention towards our province. Last year, the Public Health Minister pledged to construct a hospital, but it has not been done yet,” said a local resident.

Acknowledging the issue, Nangarhar Deputy Governor Mohammad Hanif Gardewal said efforts are going on to bolster the province’s development budget with help from the Ministry of Finance by the end of this financial year.

According to Tolo News, provincial officials said Nangarhar province spent only 35% of its development budget last year, because they did not receive the funds the from the Kabul government.
