GSM, 3G services to be available across Afghanistan in 6 months

president karzai inauguratesPresident Hamid Karzai inaugurated the much-awaited 3G mobile technology project and GSM (Global System for Mobiles) services in Kabul.

The projects, being introduced in 10 provinces, would be extended across the nation over the next six months.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Telecommunications and IT Minister Amirzai Sangin estimated USD 100mn revenue from the GSM and 3G services over the next two years.

He added the projects would extend telecommunication services to every corner of the country and would help promote a healthy competition among telecommunication companies.

“We have worked hard over the past decade to improve the telecom sector. These new projects are a result of our efforts,” said Minister Sangin.
