Herat to have its first overpass

Local officials from the Herat province reported about the stone-laying foundation of the first overpass in the Guzarah district of Herat.

The overpass is going to be built in Guzarah district close to the airport on the Herat-Kandahar highway.

Herat is one of the secure places of northern Afghanistan, where the residents have witnessed many reconstruction and development projects in the recent years.

The Guzarah district road is one of the crowded roads of Herat with deadliest traffic accidents on a daily basis.

Costing 3.5mn AFN, the road is funded by the district’s municipality.

Herat’s Governor Shah Saba said that the road would help with reducing traffic accidents and would have walkways for pedestrians.

Ahmad Wais Rafiq, Municipal of the Guzarah district, said the overpass will be 32m long and 7m high and will be built in accordance with international standards.

Many people in Herat become victims of traffic accidents from time to time.

The narrowness of the roads, lack of road signs and overcrowding of the roads are considered to be the main causes of fatal traffic accidents.
