Herat’s Iron Processing Factory Inaugurated

Herat’s  iron processing and melting factory was inaugurated on Tuesday.

The factory is an USD 8 million private sector project, marking the industrial revolution in Afghanistan.

Commerce and Industries Minister Anawarul Haq Ahadi said the government would fully support this project by increasing levy on import of the same goods from outside.

The factory has already started producing 80 tons of iron on a daily basis; and it is expected to produce 400 tons per day under a four-year plan devised in line with domestic demand.

According to Hamidullah Khadim, Herat industrialist union head, the factory has employed 200 workers, including 80 technical workers from Pakistan.
