Japan’s USD 11 million in aid to Afghan Ministry of Agriculture

Japanese Ambassador Reiichiro Takahashi signed a contract on pledging USD 11 million in aid for improving wheat seeds quality with Deputy Agriculture and Livestock Minister Abdul Ghani Ghoryani .

Wheat seeds would be distributed to 80,000 farmers. Japan’s International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) would assist in the distribution process of the agriculture input.

Mr. Takahashi said that the agriculture sector remains one of the main priorities in Japanese development programs for Afghanistan. The ambassador gave his commitment to assisting Afghanistan and specifically this project, as part of Japan’s cooperation with the Afghan nation.

Deputy Minister Ghoryani said that wheat production is estimated to increase by 42% from last year and wheat import would decline by 75% this year.
