Local officials said that the largest fuel reserve in Afghanistan with a capacity of storing 500 tons of fuel will be established in Baghlan province.

Abdul Karim Shaheen, Head of the Fuel Department in Baghlan, said the national liquid natural gas (LNG) plant would meet the fuel demands in Bamyan, Kunduz, Samangan and Baghlan.

Mr. Shaheen added that the supply of LNG through this project would have a positive impact on reduction of fuel prices in the country and dozens of dwellers in Baghlan would find job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Representative in the Provincial Council Mohammad Faisal Sami said Baghlan has witnessed relatively fewer infrastructure projects, adding that the establishment of fuel reserves would help employment in the province and enable people to have access to less costly fuel.

According to sources, the project costs more than 50mn AFN and will be built in accordance to Turkish fuel reserve standards.
