NATO and Kyrgzstan Land Transit Agreement

NATO and Kyrgyzstan have signed a land transit agreement through Kyrgyzstan for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan on Tuesday at the NATO summit in Chicago.

“It is important for the further development of bilateral cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and NATO in the interests of stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan and ensuring security in Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region,” said the foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Ruslan Kazakbaev , after signing the agreement.

NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow thanked Kyrgyzstan for the support, at the signing ceremony “agreement was an important contribution to stabilizing the situation in Afghanistan” added General Alexander Vershbow.

“Our country will persist to support the world community and NATO, in stability, peace, security, social and economical development of Afghanistan,” said  the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan.

The agreement should be approved by the president and the parliament of Kyrgyzstan.
