NUG working on establishing the first women’s university in Kabul

First Lady Rula Ghani announced on Wednesday that the National Unity Government had been working to build the first-ever women’s university in capital Kabul.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Rula Ghani said the initiative would help girls who are not allowed to attend co-ed universities to continue their higher education at the women’s university.

She reminded that building a university for girls only was one of the President Ghani’s promises during his presidential campaign.

Higher Education Minister Farida Mohmand said the university would be constructed on around 47 acres of land in Tapa-e-Marnajan area of Kabul with financial support from the Turkish government.

Meanwhile, President of the American University of Afghanistan Dr. Mark A. English said they would assist the university, which will be named Mawlana Afghan-Turk University, in developing programs and increasing its resources.
