Spring tree-plantation drive inaugurated in Helmand

helmand jpgHelmand’s governor Mohammad Naeem planted an ornamental tree in Helmand province to kick off the spring tree-plantation drive.

Various non-government organizations (NGOs), including Roots of Peace, provided 135,000 ornamental and fruit-bearing saplings to the agriculture department of Helmand this year.

Mr. Naeem called on Helmand residents to look after the trees.

The campaign is financially supported by the Roots of Peace, a leading perennial horticulture expert in Afghanistan.

Head quartered in the capital city of Kabul with field locations in various provinces of Afghanistan, Roots of Peace has worked in Afghanistan since 2003. The organization is dedicated to the demining and redevelopment of mine-affected regions, working with the motto of turning mines into vines.
