Tajikistan to host 4th Afghanistan Economic Development Expo in August

The 4th Afghanistan Economic Development Expo is slated for August 7th-10th in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

The exhibition is aimed at strengthening trade ties between the two neighboring nations, finding joint investment opportunities among Afghan and Tajik investors and finding solutions to the trade and transit issues facing Afghan and Tajik traders.

According to Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, over 40 Afghan companies are expected to participate in the exhibition to showcase products like agricultural machineries, dried and fresh fruits, saffron, carpets, marble and semi-precious stones.

The number of Afghan entrepreneurs running businesses in Tajikistan has reportedly increased in recent years. As many as 85 Afghan enterprises are currently operating in Tajikistan.

According to Tajikistan’s Agency for Statistics, the value of trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan stood at USD 106mn in 2014. This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Afghanistan estimated at USD 54mn and Tajikistan’s imports from Afghanistan worth USD 52mn.
