Water Supply Project Inaugurated in Western Herat

A German-funded water supply project opened in the capital of western Herat on June 21, 2012.

The project, benefitting nearly 100,000, cost 52.4 million Afs and took one year to complete.

Before the implementation of the project, the people of the area used domestic well water which was not suitable for drinking.

Mohammad Yasin, a resident of the Sar Hadira area, expressed pleasure over the facility.

Herat city has received more than USD 20 million of foreign aid mainly from Germany and Italy to improve its water supply program.

According to the water supply department, 90% of Herat’s population has access to drinkable water.
