[1]Residents of southern Helmand province contributed 2.7 million afghanis to the repair of historic Dar-ul-Aman and Taj Baik palaces in Kabul, the governor’s house said on Monday.

The donation was collected from governmental officials, national traders’ association, police, army, students and some residents of Helmand, the governor’s office said in a statement.

Governor Mohammad Gulab Mangal, Kabul Mayor Mohammad Younus Nawandesh, representatives of the Ministry of Urban Development, religious scholars and residents participated in a fundraising ceremony for the preservation of the palaces.

The funds were handed over to Nawandesh at the ceremony held at the governor’s office. Mangal said the wounds the Afghans suffered during decades of war remained unhealed.

He said Afghanistan was home to all Afghans who should take part in the country’s reconstruction and preservation of historical sites. He praised Kabul Municipality for its efforts to repair the ruined palaces.

For his part, Nawandiash lauded Helmand residents for their generous contribution to the fund. He said the municipality intended to turn Kabul into a modern city and rehabilitating the palaces was part of that process.
