Angelina Jolie Working On Film About Afghanistan

Saturday, December 24, 2011 – American actress and director Angelina Jolie has been working on a script for a movie about Afghanistan but she doesn’t yet have the “confidence” to put it into production

Att the film’s press day, Angelina Jolie talked about making her writing and directorial debut with this war drama, what led her to tell this particular story, cutting the film down from the initial four-and-a-half-hour version that was way more brutal, deciding to shoot the film in two different languages (Bosnian and English), that writing is a cathartic process for her, and that this experience taught her how much she loves being on the other side of the camera. She also talked about a script she’s written about Afghanistan, but said that she doesn’t know if it’s any good, or if she’ll ever show it to anybody.

Jolie said she has tentatively dipped into other potential filmmaking subjects. She  acknowledged that she “half-wrote” a script about Afghanistan but said that nobody’s read it. “I don’t even think it’s good,” she said. “Maybe I’ll dig it out, but I don’t have the confidence yet to start even thinking in that way.”

She said, I traveled to Pakistan for two weeks, before September 11th, and I visited Afghan people, when they first landed in Kabul. Over the last 10 years, I’ve tracked some families and been with them.

The actress has stepped behind the camera to make her directorial debut with In The Land Of Blood And Honey, a film she wrote herself about a romance between a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian woman.

The movie has already been nominated for a Golden Globe and won a Producer’s Guild award, but despite the film’s success, Jolie is reluctant to start work on her next behind-the-scenes project.

Angelina Jolie is set to start in several upcoming films after directing “Blood and Honey”, including Ridley Scott-produced “Gertrude Bell”, David Fincher’s “Cleopatra”, and Luc Besson’s yet untitled big scale thriller. However, she claimed she didn’t miss going back to acting this time around.
