Qantas Forges a 10-year alliance with Emirates

Qantas Airways has agreed to form a 10-year alliance with Emirates, collaborating on pricing, sales and flight scheduling.

Earlier this year, shares of Qantas Airways have hit a record low after the Australian flagship carrier forecast a drop of more than 90 per cent in full year earnings on the back of steep losses in its international arm.

The international division made a loss of 450mn Australian dollars for the financial year ending 30 June 2012.

“This Emirates partnership will help us make an orderly withdrawal, and also ensure we can continue to service our customers over the long term,” said Alan Joyce, chief executive of Qantas.

The alliance is expected to turn around the airline’s fortunes.
