Samsung tablet not as “cool” as Apple iPad- UK judge

UK’s High Court ruling was in favor of Samsung in a dispute case over the design of the firms’ respective tablet computers.

Apple had alleged that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10 infringed the design of its iPad.

The UK judge said that Samsung’s Galaxy tab was not as “cool” as the iPad.

“They do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design,” said Judge Birss.

“They are not as cool,” he said. “The overall impression produced is different.”

Samsung welcomed the ruling and added that Apple should avoid filing cases based on generic designs, as it will hurt the industry and innovation.

Apple reiterated its previous statement saying, “This kind of blatant copying is wrong and, as we’ve said many times before, we need to protect Apple’s intellectual properties when companies steal our ideas.”

Apple has made several legal claims against other phone companies, the latest being their case against HTC over the “slide to unlock” function, which a UK court decided in favor of HTC.
