Afghan Basketball Team sweeps with 78-20 victory against Nepal

basketball teamAfghanistan’s National Basketball Team beat Nepal by 78-20 in the Asian Championship on Monday and swept their way into the finals of the South Asian Championship.

Afghanistan will play against India in the final match to be held on Tuesday.

India, which is the dominant squad in the South Asian Basketball Association, will have to compete against Afghanistan.

This will be the first major international basketball challenge for India.

Eight South-Asian countries are participating in the Asian Championship at New Delhi.

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) will host the South Asian Basketball Association qualifying round for men at the Thyagraj Indoor Stadium in June.

Teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, the Maldives, Pakistan, and Bhutan are participating in the competition. The qualifying round will see a clash between India, Nepal and Afghanistan vying for a place at the FIBA Asia Championship to be held in Manila on 1st August, 2013.

The Asian Basketball Confederation Championship was inaugurated in Manila in 1960. The Championship is held to find Asia’s best team and to select teams for the Olympics and the FIBA World Championship.

This tournament is also known as the Asian Championship. (Source Tolo News)
