Afghanistan brings itself a step closer to World Cup after beating Kenya

AFghanistan vs kenyaAfter winning the toss in Wednesday’s match, Kenya elected to bat first.

Kenyan batsmen lost all their wickets and scored 89 in 36.5 overs, which Afghan batsmen successfully chased in 17.5 overs.

Afghan fast bowler Hamid Hassan managed to take 4 wickets in 10 overs, while Shapoor Zadran and Samiullah Shenwari took 2 wickets each, and Hamza Hotak along with Rahmat Shah took 1 wicket each that restricted Kenya to 89 runs.

On the batting side, Afghanistan’s Nawroz Mangal scored 52 runs from 60 balls and remained not out, while Mohammad Shahzad was caught in Varaiya’s bowl after scoring 33 runs from 41 balls.

Afghanistan lost its second wicket, Hashmatullah Shahidi in 15.6 overs, and was replaced by Asghar Stanekzai who scored 3 runs from 3 balls and thrashed Kenya in the first opening one day international (ODI) match.

Afghanistan can reach the World Cup for the first time if they clinch back-to-back wins over Kenya in Sharjah on Friday.

Ireland has already qualified from the competition as the top team and although the Afghans are fourth in the table of eight sides, they can overtake UAE and Netherlands with anoher One Day International (ODI) victory in Sharjah to take the second qualifying spot.
