52 projects implemented in Takhar

takhar jpgAs many as 52 projects were executed in Takhar province in 2013 at a total cost of USD 13mn.

The projects were jointly funded by the Ministry of Water and energy and donor organizations including Germany Development (GIZ), Agha Khan Development Network (AKDN) and the European Union (EU).

According to Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN), the project benefited thousands of families and brought 56,000 hectares of farmland under irrigation.

The projects included construction of water reservoirs, embankments, irrigation canals and retaining walls and were executed in Taloqan, the provincial capital of Takhar, Namak Aab, Dasht Qala, Yangi Qala, Bangi, Baharak, Khwaja Ghar, Rustaq, Kulfgan and Farkhar districts.

The farmers have welcomed the projects that have helped resolved the irrigation problems.
