A benefit dinner for Afghan women and children

Nooristan foundationIndian Ambassador to the United Sates, Nirupama Rao, will host a benefit dinner for Afghan women and children with collaboration from the Nooristan Foundation at her residence on October 24.

The Nooristan Foundation is a volunteer, non-profit organization established in 1999. It serves to provide humanitarian, medical and educational support for rural areas of Afghanistan. After focusing its activities on Nooristan province, the Foundation has started working in other areas as well. Current projects include: Livelihood assistance to 90 families living in a camp outside of Kabul, training of 80 midwives in Takhar province and establishing a village school in Nooristan province.

Marie Kux, president of the organization, said the event titled as “An Evening of Hope” would feature live auctions of artwork by prominent artists such as Elizabeth Freire, Mary Page Hickey, Charles Ritchie and Jean Schwartz.

The President added that the Foundation has begun working with Global Rights, a human rights NGO, committed to increasing access to the judicial system for the most vulnerable groups of Afghan society.
