ACCI calls for the establishment of a steel plant

metal in afghanistanThe Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industries urged the government to allow for the steel plant to grow by making the iron ore extracted from Afghan mines available to national manufacturers.

According to the Head of international relations at ACCI, the government must help in making the iron and steel sector a self-sufficient sector “by making them available to national manufacturers instead of selling them as a raw material to big international companies.

He added that the government’s recent ban on the export of scrap metal is positive but insufficient step. Scrap metal is sold to Pakistani industrialists at low prices and imported at considerably higher prices.
