Afghan carpets secure first position in Dubai exhibition
Afghan carpets were recognized as the best rugs and secured the first position during a Middle East exhibition in Dubai.
The exhibition was organized from January 5, 2012 to February 5, 2012 and was participated by 14 countries.
Afghan Commerce and Trade Minister Anwar-ul-haq Ahadi while speaking during a press conference on Wednesday said, the carpet which was awarded with the first position during the exhibition belonged to a private Afghan company, Tanveer.
Mr. Ahadi further added, Afghan carpets are globally recognized and is one of the ancient crafts of Afghanistan.
This comes as the Afghan Carpet Association earlier expressed concerns for the reduction of Afghan carpets production and export.
Afghan Commerce and Trade Minister Anwar-ul-haq Ahadi confirmed the report but denied that Afghan carpets production and export had fallen to 77%.
He also added, there has been a slight reduction in Afghan carpets production and export due to global economic crisis specifically in European countries.
