DABS[1]According to the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (MEC), nearly 2mn AFN are payable by the government officials and powerful individuals in electricity bills to Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS)—Afghanistan’s national electricity company.

The MEC officials claimed that DABS planned to write off the outstanding power bills.

DABS had reported about defaulters from within the government on several occasions previously. The national utility had warned to disconnect their power supply if they failed to remit the outstanding payments.

The fate of defaulting has yet remained undecided, and the cases of nonpayment of bills have increased.
