Afghanistan becomes member of the UN Economic and Social Council

Afghanistan has been elected as a member of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for three consecutive years 2016-2018.

This membership was conducted through a voting system this morning at the UN General Assembly meeting on 21 October 2015 in New York.

Last time Afghanistan had membership of this council was from1976-1978 and before that from1959-1961.

This is going to be the third time Afghanistan would serve at this Council.
