Afghanistan signs contracts for the construction of dams with FAO

The contract for construction of small power and irrigation dams was signed between Afghan Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Ismail and Food and Agriculture Organization representative Ousmane Guindo in Kabul on Sunday.
Japanese government has pledged to fund the project at a cost of USD 24.8mn.
The project includes construction of dams in central Kabul, Kapisa and Bamyan provinces.
According to Mr. Guindo, the project would irrigate more than 20,000 hectares of land and create 70,000 jobs.
