Afghanistan, Tajikistan discuss developing cooperation

afghanistan-tajikistanAfghan Economy Minister and Co-chairman of the Tajik-Afghan intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, met with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to confer on ways to develop cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The two parties discussed development of trade and economic relations, transport and trade and called for accelerating the approval of the tripartite agreement between Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan on transit.

They exchanged views on implementation of regional projects – construction of Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway, CASA-1000, opening a new border crossing points on Tajik-Afghan border, increasing supplies of Tajik electricity to Afghanistan and construction of a gas pipeline from Afghanistan to Tajikistan.

Both parties expressed confidence that an international celebration of Nawruz and the sixth Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan will contribute to the peace, stability and socioeconomic development of Afghanistan.

It was also noted that currently, 234 Afghan students study in Tajikistan and more than 200 Tajik doctors provide medical assistance to the Afghan population.
