Afghanistan to participate in 2nd Asian Youth Games

asian youth games[1]Eighteen Afghan youth athletes left for China on Wednesday to participate in the 2nd Asian Youth Games, which will run for ten days beginning on the 16th of August.

The Asian Youth Games are held every four years, with this year’s games being hosted in the city of Nanjing. The first time the games were held was in 2009 in Singapore, attracting 1,321 athletes from around the continent participating in 11 different sports.

Featuring the young athletic talents of 45 Asian nations, the 2nd Asian Youth Games have expanded to 118 sporting events. Included among the events are traditional Olympic competitions such as diving, swimming, football, handball, badminton, table tennis and weightlifting.

The games are expected to provide both a practicing ground for athletes and a sneak peak for fans in the lead up to the Summer Youth Olympic Games being held in Nanjing next year.

Afghanistan will participate in eight sporting events including, but not limited to, judo, swimming and weightlifting. Four Afghan coaches and six supervisors are accompanying the players to China. (Tolo News)
