Australia pledges USD 25mn to Uruzgan province

Australia has pledged to give USD 25mn in aid for reconstruction projects in Uruzgan province in the next three years.
The aid will be spent through the Rural Development and Public Affairs departments in all the districts of the province.
Governor Amir Mohammad Aakhand said the aid would be mostly used for road building in the province.
Rural Development Deputy Minister Mohammad Tariq Ismati said the improved security in Uruzgan allows for implementation of more development projects.
“We promise to embark on various uplift projects as soon as possible,” said Mr. Ismati.
Meanwhile, Public Affairs Deputy Minister Ahmad Shah Waheed said his ministry would endeavor to find funds for the construction of Uruzgan-Kandahar highway.
