Counterfeit vehicle registration numbers proliferating across Afghanistan

registration numbersThe increasing number of forged vehicle registration numbers has raised concerns among Afghan traffic officials.

Afghan traffic officials have cited fake plate numbers as the main factor behind the spread of Illegal Armed Groups across the country that has allowed them to travel easily from one city to another without being stopped.

Furthermore, people driving vehicles with fake registration numbers and documents aim to evade taxes, according to the head of Kabul Traffic Department Assadullah.

Director General of Traffic Nizamoddin Dadkhah alleged that most of the fake number plates come from Pakistan.

“A majority of vehicles are imported by using different kinds of illegal methods. After the vehicles are imported, fake documents, including the number plates are made in Pakistan,” Tolo News quotes Mr. Dadkhah.

Meanwhile, the Traffic Department has assured that preventive measures were being taken to stop the entry of fake vehicle number plates.
The officials called on residents to cooperate with them and help in arresting local registration law breakers.
