Addressing Kabul’s Social Council on Saturday, Minister Farooq Wardak reflected on the achievements of the Education Ministry over the past 13 years.
The Education Ministry has had noticeable accomplishments over the past 13 years. The international community has appreciated this and has pledged to continue their support.
“The World Bank alone used to grant USD 23mn to our Ministry annually, and now this amount has increased USD 125mn. There is only the way forward for our education system. What we need is to improve our capacity,” said Minister Wardak.
He added the new plan for improving the quality of education would soon be completed. As per the new plan, all schools would be monitored by the Social Councils.
As many as 14,367 councils have been established in a bid to improve education standard around the country, and 3,000 more are going to be established soon.
The councils would coordinate with the Ministry in the areas of school building, school maintenance and monitory of schools’ daily work.
Currently, 11.5mn girls and boys are seeking education around the country. Thirteen years ago, this figure was only one million.
According to Ministry, about 200 schools are currently shut down due to insecurity, barring thousands of girls and boys from education.
