ERC members ready to assist with winter challenges

Members of the Emergency Response Committee (ERC) were summoned by the Wolesi Jirga to present their preparations for the winter challenges that the vulnerable individuals in Afghanistan will most likely have to face.

The ERC committee consists of representatives of the ministries of agriculture, public works and rural rehabilitation and development and the Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA).

According to the ANDMA head Mohammad Daim Kakar, the committee had provided relief items and allocated USD 1.7mn over the past nine months to help people in emergency situations.

Agriculture and Livestock Minister Mohammad Asif Rahimi said his ministry has made available thousands of tons of wheat, 26 tons of rice and other food items.

Public Health Minister Suraya Dalil told the lawmakers that they have delivered medicines and vaccinations for measles to various provinces, and the campaign is ongoing.

Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Wais Ahmad Barmak said the vulnerable areas in various provinces and 166 rural roads that were often blocked by snow have been identified. The ministry has signed contracts with some companies to clear the roads of snow.
