Exxon’s appetite to invest in Afghanistan fading?!

Mining Minister Waheedullah Sharani said that Exxon Mobil Corp, the world’s biggest non-state oil company, has not yet turned up for a site tour of the new Afghan oil concession in the north of the country.

Exxon is one of the eight shortlisted companies for the Afghan Tajik tender near Mazar-e-Sharif.

Afghanistan’s government is finalizing new laws designed to attract more foreign mining investment, and had invited the shortlisted companies for a site tour which closed on Sunday, September 30.

Exxon has not yet made any comment with regards to their decline of the invitation.

The companies were given the opportunity to inspect the area and meet local community leaders.
