Fifth Afghan Telecom Company issued with 3G license

ministry of telecommunicationThe Afghan government issued a Third Generation (3G) technology license wroth USD 25mn to the Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) on Wednesday.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) spokesperson, Nasrat Rahimi, the license would increase competition among the telecom companies and would avail consumers of lower internet prices.

3G internet services are currently available in 16 provinces provided by Etisalat, MTN, Roshan and Salaam Telecom companies.

Presently, about 40% of Afghan population has access to internet services and efforts are made to expand internet services to 80% in the near future.
