Flood fury in north Afghanistan

Massive floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, ravaged northern and northeastern Afghanistan, washing away thousands of acres of agricultural land and dozens of houses.

Five irrigation canals, as many power dams, a water reservoir and road were damaged by floodwaters in Gazdara, Khanaqa and Khwaja Afghani villages of Tashkan district, said Shamsur Rahman Shams Deputy Governor  in Badakhshan.

He said 50 domestic animals perished in Turkman, Qadak and Traghali village of the Qushtipa district.

A commission had been tasked to assess human and property losses caused by the recent floods.
