Germany to invest in Jawzjan gas fields

germanyAccording to Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN), Germany has expressed willingness to invest in gas fields in Shiberghan, the capital of Jawzjan province.

German Counsel Karl Leiberman accompanied by delegation of German experts visited gas fields to assess the deposits and explore investment opportunities.

Governor Murad Quenili told PAN that Germany had an effective role in Jawzjan’s development projects, including the development of gas and oil fields.

Jawzjan is one of the strategic provinces of the country and is endowed with immense natural gas reserves. The province has more than 140 dug wells of natural gas reservoirs dug during the Soviet era; however, operations on the well stopped after the withdrawal of Soviet Union forces.

Currently, 36 wells of natural gas have been providing facilities to domestic consumers and some industries in the province with a reasonable price. Excavation work on another eight wells has been inaugurated in April, 2013 by the Ministry of Mines and Industries and the contract was awarded to a Turkish company to complete the project by end 2014.
