Government subsidizes wheat seeds in Faryab

As many as 6,000 farmers in northwestern Faryab province are receiving refined wheat from the provincial agriculture department. In an attempt to develop wheat production, the agriculture department is distributing a 50-kg bag of seeds at a subsidized rate of 546 AFN, compared with 1,800 AFN in the market.
In the meantime, Governor Mohammadullah Baktash told Pajhwok Afghan News (PAN) that the 300 tons of wheat being distributed was insufficient, as the provincial administration had registered some 400,000 farmers in the province.
Baktash urged the government to address the problems of lack of microfinance banks and irrigation water in Faryab.
He added that Faryab offers suitable weather for the growth of saffron, potatoes and orchards and called on the central government to focus on these spheres.
