Helmand’s pilot saffron projects show good results

ahmadzai helmandAccording to the Pajhwok Afghan News, the agriculture ministry is distributing saffron seeds to growers in 11 of districts in Helmand.

This comes after the successful conduct of pilot saffron projects that were undertaken in the province, where cultivation of poppy crops is common.

“We are distributing seeds for 10 acres of land to farmers in each district and will train 40 farmers on growing techniques,” said the provincial Agriculture Director Abdullah Ahmadzai.

Helmand offers the best weather conditions for the growth of cotton and saffron.

The farmers in the province have urged the government to assist them with finding markets for their products.

    I am from Helmand, but have not seen and ever heard about such a program conducting in Helmand province of Afghanistan !!
