High commodity prices hit Herat’s residents

storePajhwok Afghan News (PAN) reports that residents of Herat have complained about the drastic increase in the prices of  daily-use commodities.

The residents have accused the municipality of failing to control the soaring prices, adds the source.

“The common man could not afford purchasing necessary items such as flour, cooking oil and others due to an unprecedented hike in their rates,” PAN quotes a dweller, Haji Sharif Khan.

While the residents expect to government to step in and stop the trend, the government cannot interfere in the affairs of a free market system that is purely run by supply and demand factors.
