Japan funds construction work of a new building for Kabul University’s Computer Science Faculty

stone laying foundationAfghan Higher Education Minister Dr. Obaidullah Obaid laid the foundation stone for the new building for the Computer Science Faculty of Kabul University.

Funded by Japan, the new building will address the space problem of the students.

The four-storey building, costing USD 8.2mn, is estimated to be completed over the next 18 months.

Minister Obaid announced that Japan has donated 10 buses to the Kabul University and the country had previously provided one bus to the university’s medical faculty.

Japan’s envoy Hiroshi Takahashi hoped for further international assistance to develop Kabul University.

Takashi himself had graduated from the Kabul University’s languages and literature department.

Japan  has so far provided Afghanistan $4 billion in aid over the past 11 years and is currently involved in the reconstruction projects in several Afghan provinces.
