Kazakhstan willing to invest in various spheres in Afghanistan

Kazakhstan and Afghanistan signed an agreement where Astana pledged to cooperate with Kabul in various sectors including investment sectors.

Foreign Minister Zalmai Rassould told reporters that Kazakhstan is keen to invest in different areas particularly in Afghanistan’s untapped mining sector.

Yerzhan Kazykhanov, Kazakhstan Foreign Minister also evinced willingness for a railroad between the Central Asian nations.

As part of their assistance to the war-torn country, Kazakhstan would also focus on basic development projects, including in the transport sector. He also vowed to expand agriculture and trade collaboration.

Kazykhanov flew into Kabul to attend the Heart of Asia Conference which is scheduled for today.

The aim is to bring Afghanistan and its surrounding region for the first time into the unique ‘Heart of Asia’ format, a follow-up to the Istanbul process on regional security and cooperation to stabilise Afghanistan.

Representatives from Afghanistan’s six neighbouring countries, foreign ministers from eight regional states and regional and global organisations will attend the meeting.
